Salvador Dalí (b. 1904 - d. 1989).
Bronze-cast sculpture of the "Surrealist Piano". Based on one of Dalí's major iconoclastic symbols, a drawing of the same title from 1954.
Bronze with black patina, partly polished.
Incised with the artist's name, the number 198/350 as well as the caster's and publisher's stamps.
This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Inter Art Resources Ltd., London, dated 11 november 2020.
Salvador Dali's work is associated with the surrealist movement of the 20th Century.
His ‘Surrealist Piano’ is acknowledged as one of his major iconoclastic symbols and in its physical iteration witnesses the artist’s transformation of the banal wooden legs of a conventional piano being usurped with dancing female legs, which in turn bring the hitherto inanimate piano to life. ‘Surrealist Piano’ is Dali at his imperious creative best, taking what otherwise is a beautiful, yet functional object and injecting it with a new lease of life, having waved his surrealist wand; thus creating a joyous instrument which could now dance as well as play.
