Mogens Lassen Egyptian Table in Teak, A.J. Iversen, Denmark, 1950s
Mogens Lassen (1901–1987)
This iconic Egyptian Table, designed by Mogens Lassen in 1940, draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian folding furniture. With its clean lines and geometric form, it stands as a hallmark of Danish modern design and functionalist ideals.
This example, produced in the 1950–1960 period by renowned cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen, is executed in teak – a timber rarely used by Iversen for this model – making it a distinctive example of his work. The circular top features a gently raised, beveled edge and rests on an X-shaped base.
The folding legs are joined with brass fittings and finished with discreet brass-capped feet, combining stability with refined detailing. A small brass latch beneath the tabletop allows the piece to fold with ease, balancing elegance and practicality.
Lightly repolished in teak oil to preserve its original patina, the table remains in very good vintage condition, showcasing the natural warmth of the wood and the exceptional craftsmanship of mid-century Danish cabinetry.
