Pair of Chinese Side Tables, Qing Dynasty, circa 1880–1900
A refined pair of side tables from late Qing dynasty China, originally used as tea tables.
Each table is finished in a deep reddish-brown lacquer that beautifully enhances the warm character of the wood.
The tabletops are framed with a molded edge all the way around, above a finely carved, profiled apron with delicate decorative details.
Approximately 20 cm beneath the top, each table features a secondary shelf with raised edges, executed in traditional geometric latticework.
This pair represents an excellent example of Jiangsu Province craftsmanship from the late 19th century
