Eugène de Sala, Red and Blue Surrealist Oil Crayon on Paper, Paris, ca. 1925–30
Eugène de Sala (1899–1987)
Surrealist composition executed in red and deep blue oil crayon on paper.
The work is signed “de Sala” on the reverse and is framed with glass on both the front and the back, allowing the signature to remain visible.
The piece was likely created in Paris during the 1925–30 period and relates to the modernist movements that shaped the city’s artistic environment in the interwar years.
The composition combines organic and geometric forms within a compact, balanced structure. The strong contrast between deep blue and warm red creates a striking visual intensity and a clear graphic expression. Curved shapes intersect with sharper diagonals, giving the composition rhythm and movement.
Professionally framed in a wide, moulded wooden frame with glass on both sides.
