Rare Royal Copenhagen Stoneware Lidded Vase by Bode Willumsen & Knud Andersen, Denmark, circa 1950
Bode Willumsen (1895–1987) & Knud Andersen (1892–1966)
Rare one-of-a-kind lidded stoneware vessel by Bode Willumsen for Royal Copenhagen, featuring an exclusive bronze mounting crafted by Knud Andersen.
The surface is finished with a beautiful, lively and organic sang de boeuf-style glaze in warm reddish, brown and blue-green tones, creating remarkable depth and character.
The decorative handles are formed as stylized dragon figures, elegantly connecting the shoulder and neck, adding a sculptural and almost mythological presence to the piece.
The lid and base are executed in bronze with gilded details. The lid is crowned with a spherical finial resting on a ribbed collar, creating a refined contrast between ceramic and metal.
Signed on the base with the Royal Copenhagen wave mark as well as the artist’s signature. The bronze elements are also signed KA and Royal Copenhagen's wave and crown mark.
First quality.
