Impressive and monumental floor vase in glazed stoneware by the Danish ceramic artist Lene Regius. A unique, large-scale work (H: 99 cm), richly decorated with Regius’ distinctive and narrative visual language.
The surface is adorned with organic motifs inspired by African cultural history and the spontaneous, expressive aesthetics of the COBRA movement. Incised and painted figures appear layered and almost archaeological in their character, creating a sense of depth and storytelling across the surface.
A warm, saturated yellow glaze – a hallmark of Regius’ work – forms a vibrant ground for contrasting earth tones, black and white. The glazing has a rich, painterly quality, enhancing the tactile and visual depth of the piece.
Vessels of this scale are highly demanding to produce. It is likely that the throwing of the form was executed in collaboration with the ceramicist Per Weiss, known for his mastery of large-scale wheel-thrown vessels – a skill he developed during his training in Japan – after which the decoration was completed by Lene Regius.
A striking sculptural object with a strong presence, equally suited as a functional vessel or as a standalone work of art.
