Kai Nielsen - Art Deco Bronze Sculpture "Eve with the Apple", Denmark 1912
Kai Nielsen (1882–1924)
Art Deco bronze sculpture Eva med æblet (Eve with the Apple) by Kai Nielsen, executed in 1912.
The sculpture depicts the biblical Eve at the moment she contemplates the forbidden apple.
Kai Nielsen combines softly modelled, naturalistic forms with refined stylisation, creating a composition that anticipates the elegant visual language of the Art Deco movement.
Executed in green-patinated bronze and raised on a base of variegated Belgian black marble, the contrasting materials beautifully enhance the sculpture's graceful silhouette and richly developed surface patina.
Signed "Kai K." in the bronze.
Literature: Kai Nielsen 1882–1924, Faaborg Museum, illustrated on page 48.
Presented in good condition with minor age-related wear consistent with age and a beautifully matured patina.
