About the Artist
Christine Swane (1876–1960) was a Danish painter and an important figure in early Danish Modernism. Trained under Kristian Zahrtmann, she developed a highly individual artistic language distinguished by simplified forms, rhythmic compositions, and a refined sense of colour.
Throughout her career, Swane worked primarily with landscapes, floral subjects, and still lifes, balancing observation with a decorative and expressive approach. She exhibited extensively, including at Charlottenborg and Den Frie Udstilling, and her works are represented in several major Danish museum collections, including the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst).
