Nils Thorsson Stoneware Lidded Jar with Bronze Lid for Royal Copenhagen, Denmark, 1950s
Nils Thorsson (1898–1975)
Decorative four-sided stoneware lidded jar designed by Nils Thorsson for Royal Copenhagen during the 1950s.
The jar features stylized bird motifs on each side. A warm reddish-brown glaze is overlaid with a flowing charcoal-grey crystalline glaze that creates an organic, almost landscape-like surface. The dynamic glazing process gives each example its own distinctive character.
The lid is crafted in patinated bronze with gilt accents and formed as a stylized flower with a spherical finial, creating an elegant contrast to the richly textured stoneware body.
Signed with Nils Thorsson's monogram and the Royal Copenhagen three-wave mark.
Presented in good condition with minor age-related wear consistent with age and use.
