French Charles X Ormolu Mantel Clock with Horatius, circa 1820-1830
Decorative and finely executed French Charles X mantel clock in ormolu.
The clock is surmounted by a seated Roman general, possibly Horatius, dressed in classical armour and drapery. The figure rests beside an architectural column and holds a scroll, while the open gesture of the opposite hand creates a lively and balanced classical composition.
The case is richly decorated with rocaille ornament, scrolling foliage and a finely detailed moulded base. The white enamel dial with black Roman numerals is framed by a beaded ormolu bezel.
Executed to a high standard of craftsmanship and presented in very well-preserved condition.
The movement is in working order; however, no guarantee is given. Key and pendulum included.
France, circa 1820-1830.
