French Empire Gilt and Patinated Bronze Table Lamp with Winged Victoria, circa 1810

French Empire table lamp in gilt and dark-patinated bronze, circa 1810.
Originally made as a candelabrum and later converted into an electric table lamp, circa 1950.
The cylindrical gilt-bronze base is decorated with a finely engraved pattern and rests on a square black plinth. Above the base is a gilt sphere supporting a dark-patinated figure of Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, depicted with wings and raised arms carrying the richly ornamented upper section. The figure is finely modelled with detailed drapery, wings and hair.
Above Victoria are gilt details decorated with stylised palmettes, while the later lamp fitting is surmounted by a small vase-shaped finial.
