Christoph Voll – Ink Drawings of Erna Voll, 1920-30
Christoph Voll – Ink Drawings of Erna Voll, circa 1920–30
Original ink drawings by German sculptor and graphic artist Christoph Voll (1897–1939), depicting the artist’s wife, Erna Voll, captured in various scenes from everyday life.
Erna appears in numerous drawings by Voll, portrayed in private, informal moments – seated on a bed, standing at a washstand or occupied with small everyday tasks. The drawings are executed in black ink on paper with Voll’s free and expressive line and have the immediacy of observations drawn directly from the life around him.
Christoph Voll was a German sculptor and graphic artist associated with German Expressionism and Neue Sachlichkeit. His work is characterised by a strong interest in the human figure and a direct, unsentimental approach to his subjects. Alongside his sculpture, drawing formed an important part of Voll’s artistic practice, allowing him to capture movement, posture and fleeting expressions with a rapid and spontaneous line.
The drawings come directly from the collection of Christoph Voll’s family and form part of a larger group of his drawings and sketches acquired by Green Square.
The individual works vary in subject, dimensions, signature and date.
The drawings are sold individually, with prices ranging from €565 to €645 per work.
