Pair of Hans J. Wegner 'China Chairs' Model FH4283 in Cherrywood and Black Leather by Fritz Hansen, 2002
Hans J. Wegner, 1914–2007
Pair of 'China Chairs', model FH4283, crafted in solid, matte-lacquered cherry wood with matching seat cushions in black leather.
Originally designed in 1944 and produced by Fritz Hansen in 2002.
The chairs are in excellent condition and showcase outstanding craftsmanship.
About the model:
The China Chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1944 as a simplified and elegant reinterpretation of the traditional Chinese armchair from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), often referred to as the “Horse Shoe” chair due to the distinctive curved backrest. In this design, Wegner masterfully blends Eastern furniture traditions with Danish functionalism and fine woodworking.
Today, Wegner’s China Chair is recognized as a design icon — even in China, where it is exhibited alongside original Ming chairs as a celebrated example of cultural and aesthetic cross-pollination.
