A large (H: 88 cm), vibrant and rarely encountered tulipiere by Bjørn Wiinblad, executed in five separate elements and decorated in the artist's characteristic whimsical and imaginative style.
The model "Dyveke" is conceived as a fantastical lady in a wide-brimmed hat, with a stylized female face forming the base and four detachable vase elements stacked above to create an impressive sculptural composition. The numerous openings were originally intended for tulips or other individual flowers, allowing floral arrangements to become an integral part of the design.
The hand-decorated surface is executed in vibrant shades of yellow, green, turquoise, blue, pink, brown and white. Concentric circles, geometric patterns and Wiinblad's iconic female figure with almond-shaped eyes and rosy cheeks combine to create a richly detailed and highly decorative expression.
Functioning both as a flower holder and as a monumental ceramic sculpture, the piece exemplifies the playful creativity and decorative imagination that made Bjørn Wiinblad one of the most recognizable figures in Danish design. Produced in several colour variations, the "Dyveke" series remains among his most spectacular ceramic creations.
