Chinese Herbal Apothecary Chest, Late 19th Century
This elm wood apothecary cabinet, also known as a medicine chest, is an impressive piece of history with 20 unique drawers. The original burgundy lacquer has developed a beautiful natural patina over the years.
Each drawer is intricately detailed with characters describing the contents of minerals, herbs, and natural medicines that were once stored in them. In ancient China, the pharmacist also served as a doctor, and this piece of furniture reflects that duality.
To optimize storage space, we have removed compartmentalization in the drawers, providing you with maximum flexibility.
The furniture has been carefully restored with a clear lacquer finish that enhances its natural patina.
Originating from China, it dates back to the period between 1860 and 1880.
A beautiful and authentic piece of history to enrich your home
