French pendulum fireplace mantel clock in chiseled gilded and patinated bronze. The upper part with rock formation depicting an equestrian statue of Emperor Napoleon I on horseback over the Alps at the Great St Bernard Pass raising his hat in a greeting gesture.
The inscription on the plinth commemorates the surrender of the Austrian army at Ulm on 17 October 1805 (Capitulation d'Ulm 17. 8bre 1805), after a battle fought near the city. At the same time, it generously pays tribute to the bravery of the defeated opponents (Honneur au Courage malheureux - honour for unfortunate courage).
The silver plated dial with hour and minute indication. It is flanked by an eagle with outstretched wings, thunderbolts, flaming cassolettes and presents a military trophy for depreciation. It rests on front legs in the shape of cannon carriages, presenting a military trophy for decoration.
