Spanish Baroque Style Library Table, Single-Plank Top, Philippines, Circa 1840–1860
Library table in Spanish Baroque style, crafted in hardwood.
Black-painted top made from a single plank of hardwood with a beautiful worn patina, decorated with white painted line detailing and stylized floral corner decorations.
Grey-painted base. Front with a central drawer in the apron, flanked by two faux drawers with decorative pulls.
Robust, elegantly shaped Baroque legs joined by a continuous stretcher, giving the table both stability and a balanced architectural appearance.
Made in the Philippines circa 1840–1860 during the period of Spanish colonial rule (1565–1898). During this time a strong tradition developed for producing furniture in Spanish style, often made for monasteries as well as for Spanish-related and affluent families. A decorative and characterful piece reflecting the craftsmanship of the Spanish colonial period.
