Swedish Gustavian Display Cabinet in Light Blue, circa 1780-1790
Gustavian display cabinet, architecturally designed in two sections and crafted in oak. The cabinet is finished in a light blue colour with a beautiful, age-related patina.
The upper section features a curved, moulded pediment centred by a fluted pilaster and flanked by geometric carved details. The two glazed doors retain their original glass panes, while the canted sides are similarly fitted with glazed panels.
The interior is finished in a light grey colour and fitted with two shelves. Decorative pierced carvings along the front edges of the shelves lend a particularly refined and light character to the upper section.
The lower section has two doors with moulded panels and a central fluted panel between the doors. A small drawer is positioned beneath the display section, and the cabinet retains decorative brass escutcheons and classic Gustavian feet.
A decorative and finely crafted example of high-quality Swedish Gustavian cabinetmaking from the late 18th century.
