A vibrant and poetic work by Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo – better known as Corneille, one of the leading figures of the international COBRA movement.
The piece is titled “La fleur que le papillon affectionne” (“The flower that the butterfly loves”) and is executed in watercolour and gouache on paper.
It is signed and dated “Corneille ’60” in the lower right corner and is framed in a gilded wooden frame, which enhances the warmth of the colours and gives the work a classic appearance.

About the artist:
Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, known as Corneille (1922–2010), was a central figure in European post-war modernism and one of the founders of CoBrA. His art is characterised by clear colours, spontaneous lines, and a poetic visual language drawing on motifs from nature, animals, and female figures. Corneille holds a significant position within the European avant-garde and is regarded today as one of the most distinctive modernists of the post-war period.
