Early surrealist composition executed in black ink, grey wash and blue colored pencil on a piece of wallpaper. Signed “de Sala.”
The reverse bears the inscription September 1915, documenting the work as an early example within the artist’s production. The use of wallpaper as support reflects the modest materials often employed by young artists of the period.
The composition consists of interwoven geometric and organic forms rendered in black and grey tones, subtly activated by blue contour lines. Strong, deliberate strokes create a tight and dynamic structure with an almost architectural character. Sharp angles intersect with sweeping curves, forming a compact and well-balanced whole.
This drawing reveals an early development of the formal language that would later characterize the artist’s modernist works.
Professionally framed with mat and glass.
