Hans Scherfig (1905–1979) was a Danish painter and author, celebrated for his vivid depictions of animals and tropical jungles, as well as his humorous social satire. His works combine a strong sense of colour and rhythm with a naïve and decorative style, instantly recognisable and deeply rooted in his fascination with nature. Scherfig remains one of Denmark’s most popular and distinctive artists, both for his paintings and his literary works.
