Rare 18th Century Baroque Tyrolean Cabinet with Original Polychrome Paint and Carved Cherubs
An exceptional and rare Baroque cabinet from Tyrol, dated circa 1730–1750.
Crafted from pinewood and retaining its original polychrome paint in a refined combination of bluish and light grey tones, complemented by decorative accents in red, green, and golden brown.
The front is richly adorned with deep wood carvings featuring foliage, cherubs, and floral ornamentation. At the center of the two panelled doors are figures of small Baroque angels bearing symbolic attributes on a dark blue painted background:
-
One figure holds a sheaf of grain and a sickle – classical symbols of harvest and summer abundance.
-
The other carries a cornucopia and flowers – representing spring, fertility, and renewal.
These two figures can be interpreted as a tribute to the cycle of nature and the changing seasons – a theme commonly found in decorative arts of the Baroque period.
Surrounding the doors are beautifully carved cherub heads, volutes, and floral motifs, all executed with remarkable craftsmanship and intricate detail.
The interior features the original wooden construction and shelving – beautifully patinated, with traces of the original paint still visible.
A highly rare and well-preserved piece from Tyrol – Italy / Austria, c. 1730–1750.
