Late 18th Century Swedish Black Gustavian Chest of Drawers, circa 1780
Architectural and decorative Gustavian chest of drawers crafted in pine and finished in a beautiful black surface with a rich aged patina. Areas of warm wood tones subtly emerge through the finish, giving the piece depth, character, and a wonderfully authentic appearance.
The moulded top is adorned with a finely carved dentil frieze above a fluted band that continues elegantly around the cabinet. The front is fitted with three spacious drawers featuring raised panel fronts and brass handles.
The substantial corner pilasters are decorated with fluting and terminate in bold block-form details, emphasizing the chest’s strong architectural presence. The piece stands on distinctive rectangular legs with fluted panels, creating a balanced and harmonious silhouette.
A fine example of late 18th-century Swedish Gustavian furniture, reflecting the restrained elegance and classical proportions that define the period.
