18th Century Danish Baroque Secretary Desk in Faux-Marble
Impressive Danish Baroque secretary desk in grey-blue faux-marble decoration. The piece is constructed in two parts and is both architecturally and decoratively designed, featuring an unusually large number of Baroque moulded panels.
The upper section has a curved swan-neck pediment with profiled cornices and a carved central finial.
The two doors have pronounced arched tops, and both the doors and the sides are executed with particularly fine profiled panels, giving the piece a refined and well-balanced appearance.
The lower section is serpentine-shaped and fitted with a fall-front writing surface and four large drawers, all with corresponding profiled Baroque mouldings.
Behind the fall-front is a blue-painted interior with numerous small, staircase-shaped drawers and compartments.
Original lock and bronze hardware.
A beautiful example of high-quality Danish cabinetmaking and decorative painting, carefully and sympathetically restored.
