Gustavian Secretary Desk in Black-Painted Pine – Sweden, c. 1790
Gustavian secretary desk crafted in black-painted pine with brass fittings.
The upper section features a broken, architecturally structured pediment with a boldly profiled cornice, above a cabinet with two panelled doors that elegantly follow the line of the top, fitted with vertically fluted panels. Behind the doors are pine shelves.
The sloping writing flap opens to a well-organised interior with small drawers fitted with brass knobs and a central cupboard, all in contrasting blue-grey paint.
The writing flap is supported by internal pull-out supports.
Below the writing section is a series of drawers: two smaller drawers above and three larger drawers below, all fitted with locks and fittings. Solid base with gently curved feet. Original iron locks and fittings, together with brass mounts.
