Chinese Qing Red-Lacquered Cabinet from Shanxi
A early 19th century Qing dynasty cabinet boasting a deep red patina from the Shanxi Province, circa. 1820-1830.
The façade showcases two doors fitted with a traditional round medallion lock, opening to reveal two inner shelves for storage space. The lower section features two drawers with ring pulls.
The panels of the doors are constructed of elm wood with thick layers of lacquer applied onto canvas, in order to make the lacquer adhere. The base lacquer has then been enhanced with a deep red lacquer. Hints of original darker base lacquer are visible and adds a wealth of authentic charm and character enhanced with a clear lacquer finish. The sides of the cabinet has a slightly darker lacquer.
A beautiful and well-preserved cabinet.
Shanxi Province, circa. 1820-1830.
