Amenemhat III was one of the greatest pharaohs in Egypt’s history, ascending to the throne at around the age of 20. His facial features are preserved in a statue head that depicts the king as a young man wearing the crown of Upper Egypt. The crown, originally a conical “hat,” has been broken, and the king’s nose and ears have also suffered damage. This head is one of the most renowned works of art from ancient Egypt.
