Large 18th-19th Century Burmese Gilded Buddha Sculpture in Bhūmisparśa Mudrā
Large Antique Buddha (99 cm) from a Temple in Burma, crafted in hardwood, likely Burma teak.
Beautifully and intricately carved, the Buddha is depicted in Bhūmisparśa Mudrā, a classic hand gesture symbolizing Buddha’s triumph over Mara and the moment of enlightenment. The figure sits serenely on a lotus-shaped base.
The entire figure is fully gilded in 24-karat gold leaf over a red lacquered foundation, creating a rich and deep tone. The natural, age-related patina enhances its authentic historical character.
This Buddha exudes a tranquil and majestic presence, serving as an outstanding example of Burmese craftsmanship from the period.
