Prince Henrik of Denmark, Sirene, Small Bronze Sculpture, 1980s Model, Signed
His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark (born Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat), 1934–2018
A small and elegant bronze sculpture, cast in darkly patinated bronze, measuring 12 cm in height.
The piece carries the soft, organic forms that characterize Prince Henrik’s artistic expression, while the deep patina enhances its vibrant, tactile quality.
This model was created by Prince Henrik already in the 1980s and later served as the basis for the monumental Sirene unveiled in 2015 on the Honorary Quay (Honnørkajen) in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city.
Whereas the sirens of Greek mythology lured sailors to their doom, Prince Henrik reimagined the figure as a welcoming presence: today the large Sirene greets visitors arriving by sea to Aarhus Harbour and has become a prominent landmark of the city’s waterfront.
The small Sirene thus embodies both artistic merit and cultural significance – a remarkable piece of modern Danish art with royal provenance.
Signed with the Prince’s monogram at the base.
