Prince Henrik of Denmark, Sirene, Small Bronze Sculpture, 1980s Model, Signed
His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark (Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat), 1934–2018
A small and elegant bronze sculpture, cast in dark-patinated bronze, height 12 cm. The piece carries the soft, organic forms characteristic of Prince Henrik’s artistic style, while the deep patina enhances its lively surface.
Created in the 1980s, this work bears a close resemblance to Prince Henrik’s monumental Sirene, unveiled in 2015 on the waterfront in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. Although not identical to the large version, both sculptures share the same mythological inspiration: the sirens of Greek legend, who lured sailors to their doom. In Aarhus, however, the monumental Sirene has been reimagined as a welcoming figure, greeting visitors arriving by sea.
This small Sirene thus holds both artistic and cultural value – a unique piece of modern Danish art with royal provenance.
Signed with the Prince’s monogram on the base.
