Børge Mogensen (1914–1972).
Spoke-Back Sofa, model BM 1789, crafted in lacquered beech with a spindle back and woven seat.
The sofa retains its original cushions upholstered in dark blue and red checked wool, known in Danish as hestedækken (horse blanket), designed by Lis Ahlmann, together with the original leather straps.
The Spoke-Back Sofa was designed in 1945 and is among Børge Mogensen’s most recognised designs. Its construction combines a sofa and chaise longue, with one side folding down to extend the seating area. The light wooden frame with its characteristic spindles gives the sofa an open and simple expression, while the flexible construction reflects Mogensen’s functional approach to furniture design.
This example was manufactured by Fritz Hansen and retains its original cushions and upholstery.
Marked with the manufacturer’s metal label FH – Made in Denmark – By Fritz Hansen.
The sofa has remained in the same family for two generations and is preserved in very fine original condition with minimal signs of age and use.

- If you do not find there is a suitable shipping solution, you have the option to cancel your purchase or choose another solution.
- When goods and a suitable freight solution is agreed, the amount of the goods purchased is proceeded deducted from your account (unless the payment has already been made via bank transfer.)
- The cost of freight is invoiced by the transport company.
- The goods are shipped / picked up as agreed.
