Item of the Month
Each month, we highlight a piece that stands out from the ordinary and deserves special attention.
This month, we have selected a rare Siamese Buddha in gilt bronze from the 16th–17th century, crafted in the elegant Sukhothai style.
The figure shows Buddha seated in meditation, with hands in bhumisparsa mudra – the symbol of enlightenment and inner peace.
A piece with nearly 500 years of history, made in Siam (present-day Thailand), preserved with a beautiful natural patina and traces of the original gilding.
Provenance: Brought home by Count Eggert Christopher Knuth during his journey to the Far East in 1862–1863, and kept in the family collection at Knuthenborg Manor ever since.
