Item of the Month
Each month, we highlight a piece that stands out from the ordinary and deserves special attention.
This month, we present The Blue Fish – a striking ceramic wall relief designed by Jeanne Grut around 1962 and produced by Royal Copenhagen.
Crafted in faience, the relief features a highly sculptural form, brought to life by a deep blue glaze that varies in tone and texture – accentuating the fish’s scales, fins, and distinctive silhouette.
The motif is inspired by the coelacanth, an ancient fish species from the Devonian period, rediscovered off the coast of South Africa in 1938 and later known as a “living fossil”.
The Blue Fish is widely regarded as Jeanne Grut’s most iconic ceramic work
